Philips AVENT DECT Baby Monitor with Temperature Sensor Review

The Philips AVENT DECTWith our second baby girl, my wife and I were somewhat skeptical about monitoring systems. We’d already returned several other brands, while the Philips Baby Monitor reviews we’d read had been mixed at best. Nonetheless, we decided to give the Philips AVENT DECT Baby Monitor a try, and we are both very glad that we did.

Tremendous Range

We decided to buy the Philips AVENT DECT baby monitor from Amazon.com because they had the lowest prices and it is a great place to read customer reviews. They also have free shipping!

When I first took the receiver outside, I was amazed at how well I could hear our baby, even as I walked far down into the woods adjacent to our property. Unlike some of the other receivers that my wife and I used when our first daughter was an infant, the Philips AVENT Baby Monitor allows us to hear our newborn with no static interference. The product advertises itself as offering up to 1,082 feet of clear reception, and I totally believe it. Best of all, the system is data encrypted, so you never have to worry about your baby being heard on receivers in other households.

Temperature Alerts

Knowing how sensitive that babies can be regarding room temperatures, we’re very pleased with how the Philips AVENT DECT Baby Monitor accurately keeps track of room temperatures. We’ve always done our best to keep the temperatures in our house at suitable levels, but sometimes the weather in our area changes from hot to cold in the same day. With this device, we always know when to turn on fans, open windows and adjust the heating in our house.

Long Battery Life

As a frugal parent, I’m really impressed with how the Philips Baby Monitor conserves energy. You can get at least 24 hours of nonstop battery power with every recharge, and the receiver even shuts off automatically whenever you happen to stray out of range. That last feature has been really useful for my wife, who often forgets to turn off lights and appliances once she’s done using them. The system is also equipped with an ECO mode feature, which conserves even more energy during those low priority hours for monitoring, such as when our baby is sound asleep.

Sound-Level Detection

Our Philips AVENT DECT Baby Monitor has also been perfect at distinguishing sounds in our baby’s room. It lets us hear the sounds that our baby makes while filtering out other noises around the house. If the house gets too noisy, the parent receiver adjusts to the overall volume level so we can still hear our baby above the stereo, television or any kitchen appliances that might be running. There’s also a set of lights on the receiver that keep us assured of normal volume levels in our baby’s room, while alerting us whenever those levels change.

Lullaby Options

The baby monitor also contains 5 different lullabies for helping babies sleep. However, I was somewhat disappointed by the limitations of this feature. The last monitor that we owned would play lullabies for up to 30 minutes, whereas the lullabies on the Philips AVENT DECT Baby Monitor only last 5 minutes, which isn’t long enough to help a baby fall asleep. I also find it frustrating that the lullabies cannot be activated from the parent receiver, which generally gives me control over all the other functions. But those complaints aside, this is the best monitor that my wife and I have owned.

Simply put, the Philips AVENT Baby Monitor is the best out of all the monitoring devices that we have tried. No matter what experiences you might have had with other brands, I highly recommend the Philips AVENT DECT Baby Monitor with Temperature Sensor and New ECO Mode.
